Built on Passion for Music and Live Entertainment

Founded from a passion for live steel drum music, Sunshine Steel Drums has spent over 20 years creating energetic event experiences filled with rhythm and authentic island spirit. Every performance is crafted to engage the crowd, elevate the atmosphere, and leave lasting memories.

The Passion That Started It All

Our founder, Askia Bakari, is an accomplished musician who plays keyboards, steel drums, and guitar and sings. He continues to perform solo and with bands at a host of regional venues, including restaurants, festivals, colleges, beaches, and more!

  • Four consecutive years touring throughout the US and Canada with pop-rock bands
  • A&R rep with Walt Dixon (former road manager of Janet Jackson)
  • Completed recording project at Bob Marley's Tuff Gong Studio, Kingston, Jamaica
  • Holds an Associate Degree in Music Business and Entertainment
